Dachshunds are intelligent, clever dogs with an independent streak. They are affectionate, loving and devoted to their family. 

According to the American Kennel Clubs breed standards, "the dachshund is clever, lively and courageous to the point of rashness, persevering in above and below ground work, with all the senses well-developed. Any display of shyness is a serious fault." 

Dachshunds are known for their daring nature. Although they are small in stature, they will not hesitate to challenge a larger dog. 

Dachshunds can sometimes be stubborn, which can lead to difficulty with housebreaking. But, with a little patience, housebreaking can be achieved
